ISLAMABAD: Government of Pakistan has established Land Information and Management System Center of Excellence to develop modern agro-farming to bring under cultivation millions of acres of land. This state-of-the-art system will help improve agricultural productivity through sustainable precision agricultural practices based on modern technologies and the agro-ecological potential of the land while ensuring the welfare of the rural population and protection of the environment. GIS-based LIMS will greatly improve national agricultural production by streamlining the digitization of agriculture.

The system will provide timely and accurate information on soil, crop, weather, water resources and pest monitoring to local farmers through remote sensing and geospatial technologies, as well as minimize the role of middlemen through effective marketing systems.  By establishing land information management system, farmers will also get direct access to markets. Under “Lams” agricultural production will be made possible through the use of modern technology on uninhabited and low-yielding agricultural lands. This revolutionary institution will provide a single roof on land, crops, weather, water resources and pest control.
