Punjab Ehsaas Ration Subsidy Cards Program

The Punjab Ehsaas Ration Discount Program has started from December 8 at verified grocery stores. 8 million families of Punjab will benefit from this program. Under the Ehsaas Ration Discount Program, eligible families will get a subsidy of Rs 2000 on flour, ghee, oil and pulses and they will be able to get up to 40% discount on all these essential items. The total cost of this program is Rs 100 billion.

The Ehsaas Ration Program is fully automated in Punjab as compared to the federal government. The subsidy of Rs 2000 per month is also double the amount applicable for each family in the federal level programme. Targeted subsidy is implemented through mobile point-of-sale at grocery stores and CSD’s computerized point-of-sale system.

The provincial government has decided to give a special package, under the Punjab Ehsaas Programme, to families adopting family planning measures. The rapidly increasing population is a threat to human survival on the planet as rampant population growth increases health, education, environmental and employment problems. Public cooperation with government efforts is indispensable to overcoming population-related problems. By controlling the population, the quality of life can also be improved.

Special subsidy on flour, ghee and pulses will be provided under the Prime Minister’s historic food aid initiative. The families who will be considered eligible will be able to obtain items of daily use like flour, oil, sugar and pulses at subsidized rates from Utility Stores and retail stores (kiryana shops). Small retail stores opened even in streets and localities will also provide this facility if they are registered and authorized for this system.

The beneficiaries will need a mobile phone number registered on their Computerized National Identity Card which will be produced before the specific stores from which purchases on subsidized rates will be sought.
