6th July – 15th July 2022

The Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) has announced the schedule for the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) and National Licensing Examination (NLE).

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • English

Total MCQs: 200

Note: In the Biology, Chemistry, and Physics sections 70% of questions will be recalled (Cl) and 30% at understanding level (C2). The MDCAT Common Curriculum has been formulated on a single principal basis that there is no subject in Pakistan outside the existing recognized FSC syllabus. It has been reviewed by a committee of provincial universities and the IBCC.

Private colleges are allowed to have a fee structure for Pakistani students for foreigners. In addition, provinces can set quotas for foreign students to enroll in their public sector colleges. The Pakistan Association of Private Medical and Dental Institutions (PEMI) believes that the PMC’s decision to make MDCAT mandatory will result in a majority of local students.

Foreign students are divided into two categories:

  • Pakistani students (overseas Pakistanis)
  • Foreign students

There is no quota for foreign students. All foreign students will compete on national merit for admission to private colleges. Each province can set quotas for foreign students to enroll in its government colleges if they wish. Private students may have a different fee structure from Pakistani students to foreign students, with lower fees for Pakistani students.

Foreign students are those who are foreign nationals and do not have Pakistani citizenship and have obtained Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC), Class XII examination, or its equivalent outside Pakistan. Pakistani students are non-resident or non-resident dual citizens who have passed their HSSC exam or its equivalent outside Pakistan.

The foreign student can apply for merit preparation in a private college based on taking MDCAT results in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics / Mathematics, or SAT II (Scholarist Aptitude Test) results. For the calculation equivalent to the total score of MDCAT, the ratio given to each score will be Biology 40pc, Chemistry 30pc, Physics / Math 20pc English is an exception if students have obtained their HSSC qualification from a program taught primarily in English.

Both types of students are exempted from MDCAT and only SAT II will be considered for their admission. Foreign students who choose to come to Pakistan on November 15, 2020, and take the MDCAT will not be disqualified as foreign students for the purpose of applying for admission. The foreign student will retain the right to choose either MDCAT score or SAT II score when applying for admission to a private college even after taking MDCAT.

candidates with 60% marks in intermediate will be eligible to apply to medical and dental colleges. Students with 55% can apply for admission to MBBS and with 45% marks for the BDS course. Earlier this requirement was 65% for MBBS and 60% for BDS.
