Punjab’s Chief Minister Transplant Programme: A Revolutionary Step in Healthcare
Punjab has taken a historic step in healthcare by launching the Chief Minister Transplant Programme, the most comprehensive transplant initiative in the country’s history. This achievement makes Lahore Children’s Hospital the first public institution in Pakistan to perform such a high number of bone marrow transplants.
The hospital’s cancer ward has provided treatment to 2,000 patients in a single year. Over 25,000 young cancer patients have benefited from the cancer ward’s outpatient department. The success rate for bone marrow transplants at the hospital is over 89%, which aligns with global standards. Patients from Sindh, Balochistan, and other provinces, as well as children from Afghanistan, have received free bone marrow transplants at the hospital.
In addition to the surgeries, the hospital also provides free medication to bone marrow transplant patients. Follow-up checks are conducted every 15 days for each child who has undergone a transplant.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced that a bone marrow transplant card will be issued soon.
