Sindh Corona Virus Emergency Relief Ordinance

KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to waive low-unit electricity and gas bills under the Corona Virus Emergency Relief Ordinance. According to the procedure laid out in Sindh province, 285000 ration bags were distributed. 1056 Isolation Centers were set up across the province.

Sindh government has drafted an emergency relief ordinance due to coronavirus. According to the draft, Corona Virus Emergency Relief Ordinance will be in effect from 1st April in Sindh.

Under the draft, it is mandatory to deduct 20% fee on all private schools; no private school will receive more than 80% fee. Private schools will be obligated to provide 20% discount on fees to all students. 20% will not be charged in any other mode, 20% will be fully waived and will not be charged in installments.

According to the draft, electricity bill up to 260 units will be fully exempted while 25% discount will be given to electricity bill from 261 to 350 units, 50% electricity from 351 to 400 units will be payable, the draft states that up to 80 yards. Houses with all water connections will be exempt, 25% will be billed on 81 to 160 yards of water connections, plus 50% of bills payable for water connections from 161 yards to 240 yards.

According to the draft, the landlord will be obliged to give full or partial discount to the tenants, rent will not be paid less than Rs. 50,000, 50% will be paid in case of rent of one lakh while one lakh. In case of rent exceeding tenant, the tenant must pay in full.

According to the draft, gas bills up to 155 units will be waived; up to 200 units will have 75% discount on gas bills and 50% on gas bills of 300 units will be discounted.

Sindh government has also announced punishment for violating the Corona Emergency Relief Ordinance. Failure to provide relief under the ordinance will result in penalties. Discounts on taxes, fees, fees will also be given.
