PTA Online Mobile Registration at CMOs’ Franchises/Service Centers

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) in consultation with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has developed an online Device Registration System. International passengers are required to register mobile devices within 60 days from the date of arrival in Pakistan.

According to the rules, all mobile devices that are connected to any local mobile phone network via local SIM must be registered within two months of using the local network for the first time, but in exceptional circumstances, Blocking Divas, which were supposed to be blocked between March 18 and July 3, 2020, will now be blocked from June 4, 2020.

As per Customs baggage rules, an international traveler can avail of duty/tax exemption
on ONE mobile device in a calendar year. The duty/tax exempted devices also need to
be registered through this system.

Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs) and PTA Type Approval holders are allowed to import GSM boosters and install them in the consumer premises as per the PTA rules. Or those involved in the installation of amplifiers may be prosecuted, with regard to coverage and quality of service (QOS) standards, the PTA said to improve network coverage and performance in the affected areas. Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has launched a series of strict action against smuggled mobile phones in Pakistan. PTA has greatly tightened the mobile registration system while placing double checks on online mobile registration. Under its new verification process, at least 3,570,000 mobile phones have been registered while over 9,500,000 mobile phones have been blocked.

Pakistan had launched the online registration system with the help of customs. passengers are required to enter details of their travel documents, passport and travel history to register their mobile phones online. the free phone allowed to passengers coming to Pakistan can also be registered online. Passengers were then bound to pay customs duty on mobile phones. The applicant can enter a mobile number to authenticate with a biometrically verified mobile number database and a one-time password (OTP) is sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.

The PTA has also revised the coverage obligations and quality of service standards for operators by renewing the license. The PTA not only takes action against violators but also issues instructions to the public from time to time. Do not purchase/use illegal, GSM boosters/amplifiers that have been imported/purchased through any unofficial channels to avoid any inconvenience and legal action in accordance with applicable laws.

Public Notice: All mobile devices including non-compliant (having SIM/IMEI functionality) active on Pakistani mobile networks. It will remain operational without service interruption. Non-compliant mobile devices will be paired with the user’s mobile number.
