ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the Rawit Hilal Committee has been convened today for the sighting of the moon of Muharram, the first month of the new Islamic year 1444 Hijri. The meeting of the Punjab Zonal Committee will be held in Iwan Awqaf, Lahore, while Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad will announce the beginning of the Islamic New Year in Pakistan.
Muharram moon was not seen anywhere in the country. A meeting of the central Sighting Hilal Committee was held in Quetta under the chairmanship of Chairman Viewing Hilal Committee Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, at the end of which a statement was made that the Muharram moon was not sighted anywhere in the country, therefore the 1st of Muharram i.e. the beginning of the new Islamic year. July 31st will be on Sunday, while Ashura Day will be on August 9th, Tuesday.
The central meeting for moon sighting will be held in Quetta while the meetings of the zonal committees will be held in their respective cities. Apart from this, a meeting of the Islamabad Zonal Committee will be held at the offices of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Kohsar Complex.
