ISLAMABAD: Local body elections in the federal capital Islamabad have been postponed. The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed the Election Commission (EC) to make new constituencies within 65 days and announce the election schedule.
Islamabad Local Body Election 2022 Schedule
Candidates can submit nomination papers for local body elections in Islamabad from June 13 to June 16. Nomination papers will be scrutinized from June 20 to 22. After the announcement of the schedule, appointments and transfers will be banned in Islamabad. According to the notification, the announcement of new development projects and schemes will be banned in Islamabad.
It has been decided to hold local body elections in Islamabad on April 15. Local body elections in Islamabad will be held through an electronic voting machine. The Election Commission has requested 3,900 electronic voting machines from the federal government. The technology has been directed to be provided to the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Federal Minister for Science and Technology Shibli Faraz said that 50 machines for training and testing are being provided to the Election Commission immediately. The Election Commission has fixed April 15 as the date for Islamabad local body elections. Before April 15, 3900 EMMs will be provided to the Election Commission.
The initial publication of the delimitation will be on January 8,2022 while the objections against the delimitation will be from January 9 to 23,2022.
According to the announcement, the final publication of the delimitation will be on February 16,2022. Immediately after the delimitation, the Election Commission will issue the schedule for the Islamabad Local Government Election.
