Voters can now easily locate their polling stations by sending their National Identity Card (NIC) number to 8300 via SMS. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced this new feature. While the 8300 messaging service has been operational for a while, it previously only provided information on the electoral area.
However, once the ECP completes its database update (expected by today or tomorrow), the reply from 8300 will also include the specific polling station details. This convenient service aims to significantly reduce the time and effort voters spend searching for their designated polling locations.
The ECP has also confirmed that National Database Regulatory Authority (Nadra) officials will commence the activation of the Result Transmission System (RTS) starting today.
The RTS software will be installed on the smartphones of all presiding officers (POs). This enables POs to transmit Form 45 (containing tabulated results from the polling station) directly to the ECP via their phones on election day. For POs without smartphones, the RTS software will be installed on the devices of other election staff members. The ECP has stated that the process of linking the RTS software with the central database will be finalized by July 21st.
