HEC Assessment Test (Law-GAT) 2024 for enrollment as an advocate with Bar Council

The Hon’ble Supreme Court vide its 2018 Order has directed the restoration of the Law Graduate Assessment Test (law-GAT) by the Pakistan Bar Council (P8C) through the Higher Education Commission (HEC). The objective of the Assessment Test is to ensure proper scrutiny and evaluation of a law graduate desirous to join the legal profession so that only competent individuals possessing necessary basic knowledge of law may enter the legal profession for practicing law.

Therefore, a law graduate only becomes eligible to apply to a Bar Council for enrolment as an Advocate if he/ she qualifies for the Assessment Test to be conducted by the Higher Education Commission, Pakistan has been so authorized by the Pakistan Bar Council, pursuant to the aforementioned Order of the Hon’ble Supreme Court and read with Section 26 (cc) of Legal Practitioners and Bar Council s Act 1973 and rules of the PBC.

Therefore, a law graduate will only become eligible to apply to a Bar Council for enrolment as an Advocate if the applicant qualifies the Assessment Test to be conducted by HEC, Pakistan has been so authorized by PBC, pursuant to the aforementioned Order of the Honorable Supreme Court and read with Section 26 (cc) of Legal Practitioners and Bar Council’s Act 1973 and rules of the PBC.

Pakistan is conducting the Law Admission Test (LAT) tor applicants desirous to get admission n five-year undergraduate LLB Degree Programme n HEC/PBC recognized public and private sector subversives/institutions and valid cottages affiliated with public sector universities m compliance with the directions of the Honorable Supreme Court vide its.Order dated March 6.2018 and Judgement dated August 31. 2018 passed m C P134/2012.

Who Can Apply for Law Admission Test?

Students who have passed the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) or equivalent/Grade-12 education.Students who have appeared n the final examination of HSSC or equivalent/Grade-12 education and are awaiting results.

Eligibility:

Persons having passed Bachelor’s degree in Law from a university recognized by HEC and PBC are eligible to apply.

As per recommendations of PBC, those candidates v/ho appeared in Law-GAT Test held on September 15, 2019, but could not qualify by securing requisite 50% marks, are also eligible to apply and appear in this Special Law-GAT Test, irrespective of the number of chances they have earlier availed.

A copy of your LLB degree and the rest of the detailed transcripts and deposit slip or the bank draft has to be sent to this address which is: Room number 212.2nd floor. HRD building- HEC. H-8. Islamabad

The test will consist of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
HEC Law-GAT Test Date:

The test will be conducted on Sunday, August 13, 2024. Any change in the test date will be communicated through https://etc.hec.gov.pk

HEC Online Registration:
Applicants who have registered through HEC online registration process will download their Roll Number Slip through https://etc.hec.gov.pk a week before the test date. Email/SMS will be sent to registered applicants regarding the test date, time, and venue Candidates are required to provide a valid email/mobile number while filling the online application form.

Roll number slips

Roll number slips will be given and issued to you at your mentioned postal address along with the exact test date. A print of Roll Number Slip and original CNIC will be required to enter Test Centre.
