The first phase of the free solar panel scheme will be completed by the end of July. Solar systems will be installed free of charge for consumers who consume up to 200 units per month across the province. 861,000 consumers applied for the free solar panel scheme.

The entire process of the free solar panel scheme was completed through end-to-end digitalization. 47,182 systems of 0.55 kW and 47,301 systems of 1.1 kW will be installed. Solar systems will be provided free of charge to consumers who consume up to 100 units per month and up to 200 units per month.

Verification will be done through the reference number and CNIC number mentioned on the consumers’ monthly bill. A helpline has also been set up to assist and guide consumers who get free solar panels. To prevent theft of solar panels and inverters, they will be linked to the consumer’s computerized identity card.

Installing approximately one lakh solar systems in Punjab will reduce carbon emissions by 57,000 tons. The free solar panel scheme will also reduce the burden of subsidies on the federal government.
