Eid ul Azha/Bakara Eid Method of Qurbani in Islam

Eid ul Azha Method of Qurbani in Islam

The days of Qurbani are the 10th, 11th, and 12th of Zul Hijjah. The first day is better than the second, and the second better than the last.

There is nothing dearer to Allah during the days of Qurbani than the sacrificing of animals. The sacrificed animal shall come on the Day of judgment with its horns, hair, and hooves (to be weighed). The sacrifice is accepted by Allah before the blood reaches the ground. Therefore sacrifice with an open and happy heart. (Tirmizi, Ibne Majah)

Eid ul Azha Qurbani Dua

Eid ul Azha Dua & Method of Qurbani is given below in Urdu and Arabic.

  • Use a sharp knife and slaughter the animal quickly so that it does not suffer.
  • Do not sharpen the knife in front of the animal.
  • After slaughtering, do not skin the animal before it becomes completely cold.
  • Do not slaughter one animal in the presence of another.
  • It is mustahab (desirable) for one who intends to perform Qurbani to refrain from cutting hair or clipping nails from 1st Zul Hijjah to 10th Zul Hijjah,(i.e. until after Qurbani).

Qurbani Dua

After reciting the Du’a the Qurbani animal should be placed on its left side facing the Qiblah and then start slaughtering the animal. The blade should not be sharpened in the presence of the animals. The animal should be slaughtered at a lonely place so that other animals may not observe the slaughter. The head of the animal should not be separated during the slaughter but later after the animal is completely lifeless, even the blade should not go inward into the medulla spinal. Skinning or separating any piece of the animal is not permitted before the animal is completely lifeless. Slaughtering of the animal should be started from the neck to the front part (bosom) to the vertebral column. The name of Allah must be called upon at the time of slaughtering by saying:

بِسْمِ اللہِ اللہُ اَکْبَر (In the Name of Allah; Allah is the Greatest.) If at the time of slaughtering the name of someone else other than Almighty Allah (God) is intentionally called upon then the meat becomes Haram “unlawful.” If a Muslim forgets to call upon the name of Almighty Allah (God) at the time of slaughtering (which is “Wa’ajib”) the Qurbani will not be performed. Animals slaughtered in an Islamic way remain fresh for a much longer period because of the insufficiency of blood in the meat as variance to other techniques of slaughtering. The instant cutting of vessels of the neck isolates the flow of blood to the neuron of the brain which is responsible for pain. Therefore the animal does not feel any pain. The animal seems to grapple, tussle and kick but it is not due to pain, it is because of the recession and loosening of the muscles lacking in blood and because of the flow of blood out of the body. Sacrifice is basically performed by all Muslims across the globe to please Almighty Allah (God) so try to give away as much as you can.

  1. It is permissible to eat the Qurbani meat.
  2. It can also be distributed to relatives and friends whether wealthy or poor, Muslims or non-Muslims.
  3. It is better to divide it into three parts. One for the family, one for relatives and friends, and one for the poor and needy.
  4. The skin of the Qurbani animal can be kept for personal use, e.g. using it as a prayer mat, water bag, etc.
  5. If the skin of the Qurbani animal is sold, then it is wajib to give that amount in sadaqah to the poor (i.e. those who are eligible for Zakah).
  6. It is not permissible to give meat, fat, etc. of the sacrificed animal to the butcher as his wages.
  7. The meat of the animal slaughtered by partners should be shared by weight and not by estimation.
  8. The rope, cover, etc. of the animal should be given away as sadaqah.
