Khyber Pakhtunkhwa patients will now receive free liver and kidney transplants at the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute in Lahore. This free liver and kidney transplant facility will be available under the provincial government’s health card scheme.
The cost of liver transplant will be Rs 5 million per patient while the cost of kidney transplant will be Rs 1.4 million per patient. In this regard, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mehmood Khan said that the facility of free liver and kidney transplant in a major institution like Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute is a great gift of the provincial government to the people.
The people of the province will also be provided free liver and kidney transplant facility in other important institutions of the country. Free cancer treatment will also be included under the health card scheme while free OPD services in the wider public interest are also being included in the health card scheme.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mehmood Khan has issued “ration cards” to poor and deserving families after the Health Card Plus for free food items. Food items will be provided free of cost on the ration card. In the first phase, ration cards will be issued to poor and deserving families in Four districts of the province.
The provincial government is working on a comprehensive plan to put the health system on a sound footing. Work is underway to establish major hospitals under a public-private partnership so that the people have access to medical treatment at the local level. And the burden of patients on the major teaching hospitals in the province can be reduced.
