Pakistan went crashing out of the ICC Women’s World Cup yesterday after a jarring defeat against South Africa by 126 runs in Cuttack.
The team, led by Sana Mir, finished at the bottom of group A, as Australia, New Zealand and South Africa advanced to the Super-Eight stage.
Unfortunately, Pakistan failed to secure a single win in the tournament. Like the previous two matches, the batting let the team down once again.
Batting first, South Africa posted a total of 207 for five in their allotted 50 overs. Marizanne Kapp’s brilliant 102 – aided by 11 boundaries – propelled them to a handsome score. Pakistan, in turn, failed to respond befittingly and the entire team was ousted for just 81 in 29.4 overs.
Sidra Ameen, with 15 runs, was the team’s top-scorer.
