Renowned classical singer Mehnaz Begum passes away after protracted illness
KARACHI: Well-known playback singer Mehnaz Singer died here on Saturday after a protracted illness, SAMAA reports. She was being shifted to the United States for treatment when her condition worsened. She was shifted to a hospital in Bahrain where she breathed her last.
She remained hospitalized in Karachi for two weeks.
She was Born in 1958 in Karachi, Mehnaz Begum sung a variety of genres but specialized in ghazal, thumri, dadra, khayal, drupad and reciting salam, noha and marsiya. She was the daughter of celebrated sub-continental singer Kajjan Begum.
